Lydia's tiara...
My tiara – I fell in love with it at a wedding fayre I attended. Just perfect for the hair style I had in mind and as I had no intention of wearing my veil for the entire day, I thought the tiara would make my ‘look’ more finished without the veil. The tiara was handmade for me by Rosie Priestley and I even had my head measured! I worried that it might dig in slightly during the day but I have to say, it felt really nice all day and I didn’t even realise it was there. Lydia Vernon

Style Advice

Which tiara/jewellery should I choose?

Your choice of tiara is very much down to personal preference. Most brides choose traditional bridal colours for their jewellery, eg white or cream pearls and clear crystals but you could have something which incorporates colours from your theme or matches a sash or panel from your dress. Also, if you have significant beading on the bodice of your dress, it is a good idea to match your jewellery/tiara to this.

Your hairstyle will influence your style of tiara (or vice versa), with crown styles suiting hair worn up, usually in a bun, and alice band styles suiting hair worn loose or tied at the nape. If you are going for big hair, then a larger tiara will suit. Likewise, if your style is sleeker, a smaller style will be better. Your hairdresser will be able to advise you on the best hairstyle for your wedding day, to suit your face, hair type and the kind of look you want.

What if I'm wearing a veil?

Would you prefer your veil to fit snugly against your hair decoration? If so, a comb may be a better option.

How do I wear my tiara?

Tiara Styles

Crown Tiara: Usually fits around an ‘up do’, on the crown of the head. It can be gently placed in your hair by your hairdresser. A veil can be worn just behind the tiara or at the back of the hair. See Golden Leaf and Silver Leaf tiaras.

Front mounted tiara: Worn towards the front of the head and usually secured with pins. Suits hair worn up or down. A veil can be worn just behind the tiara. See Oysterie and Flower Shower tiaras.

Alice band tiara: Worn just like an Alice band, decorations lay flat against the head and look stunning against hair worn down. See Silver Lining and Spray tiaras.

Combs and pins: Usually worn off-centre toward the side or back of the head. Pins look great worn as a cluster or scattered through the hair.

Do I need any other jewellery?

Some brides choose to simply wear a tiara and no other jewellery which looks fantastic with more decorative dresses. Other brides feel they want to finish off their look with matching jewellery, particularly if their dress is more simple in style. You will see co-ordinating items listed with each item.
