Make your own sand cast jewellery in Lincolnshire, inspired by the sea
Join me in for a relaxed, hands-on workshop in Lincolnshire exploring the ancient art of sand casting – a technique that dates back thousands of years. It’s a process that never loses its fascination for me, from creating a mould with simple equipment, to the magic of revealing a newly formed piece of jewellery in the sand. This is a workshop for those who enjoy a bit of mess, a bit of magic, and don’t mind the odd imperfection – because that’s often where the beauty lies.
I’ll guide you through each step – from preparing your mould using a special casting sand, to pouring your silver and finishing your piece. You’ll leave with something entirely your own: a piece of solid silver, made by your hands, to keep or to gift.
The theme is ‘by the sea’ – shells, pebbles, sea-worn treasures – but really, it’s about what feels meaningful to you. *You’re welcome to bring something small and solid to cast (anything that can survive a good squeeze in the sand), or choose from my collection of seaside finds in the studio.
You’ll learn how to:
- Create a special sand mould with your chosen object
- Melt silver in a crucible and pour it into your mould
- Remove casting marks – or leave them for extra texture
- Turn your cast piece into finished, wearable jewellery
The class includes 15g of silver which is enough for two small pieces or one large piece, as well as jump rings for soldering to your jewellery.
Earwires, posts and chains can be purchased on the day, depending on what you’d like to make, as well as extra casting silver if required.
Workshops are small and supportive, so there’s plenty of time for individual guidance. Whether you’re looking to try something new or just want to spend a few creative hours making something beautiful, you’ll leave with a unique piece of jewellery and some serious jewellery-making skills. All tools and materials provided – just bring your enthusiasm and a few other things….

What do I need to bring?

- Wear closed toed shoes, especially as we’ll be soldering
- Hair tie – if you have long hair, it must be tied back
- Notebook/sketchpad – to make a record of what you learn
